Transcription of the LAST WILL of James Gardner
William and Oney Gardner's Gravesite
It is said that John Gardner was lost at sea around New York State or on way back to England and that he married
Luzelle __? from France. It is believed that John Gardner died at sea right after his son, James was born.
It is my belief that John's parents could be John Gardner and Christianna Finch who lived in Scotchtown,Orange
County, New York. This would show John, Jr.'s spouse to be a HUTCHINGS. He would have drowned in the Hackensack River
and was a Colonel in Ann HawkHay's Regiment of Orange County, New York Militia.
The surname GARDNER is found among the founders and settlers of the first Puritan settlement, Cape Ann &
Naumkeag, 1623-1627. Source: The Winthrop Society.
